Workaholism, this is the buzz word in today’s working professionals. Everything goes fine till he or she get married. That is the time they realize they already got married, but to the job. Read on to find more about Workaholism and how you can learn work-life balance to lead a smooth life style.
It is bitter truth that our thoughts and energies got directed towards work than our personal relationships. Work dominates our thought process whether we are in office or home. There are people who feel comfortable at office than home. Work has come to occupy the central part of our life. We often forget that “work” is something just part of our life.
Workaholism is to be considered as an addiction. It is the choice made by one to overcome the psychological stresses. It might be a result from fear of job security or to sustain lavishing life style. The worrisome fact is those workaholic people doesn’t realize that they are under addiction and they tend to find solution to their family problems in other way around.
If you are a Workaholic, you will face more hurdles in your personal life. Strain in personal relationship, it will affect relationship with spouse, children, extended family and friends. It will have definite damage to your health in your later stage, but you don’t find anyone to take care of you at that time. You will not be flexible since you enjoyed more power at office and you will try to have the same authority in your personal life. You tend to do all the stuffs by your own and you are reluctant to delegate which affects your overall productivity and will put set back in your career growth.
How do you find that you are Workaholic? If you find that weekends and vacations are terrible and you cannot wait to go back to work. If you don’t have any interest in anything other than your work and you forget your spouse, child’s birthdays, wedding anniversary but you make all efforts to gift your boss’s birthday. Yes, this is the time you need to hear your inner voice and chart out a plan for work-life balance.
Workaholism is preventable or recovery is possible from the addiction, but one has to be ready to make the choice at right time. This requires lot of support from loved ones and do need careful planning.
Schedule your time, this way you can finish your task in a pre-planned way. This helps you to do more task in a stipulated time.
You should force yourself into more social interaction, have more weekend parties with family, friends. You will soon realize how your personal relationship is getting strengthened.
Allot time to take care of your health, go for regular exercise, and go to spa to rejuvenate your energy.
Have 5 minutes short break every hour amid of work to say “hello” to your office friends.
Sharpen your mind, attend workshops, read books, go to theatre to keep your mind working.
Revive your goals and set new targets for both your work and personal life.
